15 Apr Leadership Lessons from ‘Field of Dreams’: If You Build It…
To this day, Field of Dreams is still my all time favorite movie. Not because of the baseball, but because of Ray Kinsella’s (Kevin Costner) relentless belief of the importance of pursuing his calling.
Plus I like Kevin Costner…! But that’s beside the point.
Ray didn’t know exactly what he was going to find, or what the end goal was going to look like, yet he kept going despite all the roadblocks & pressures he encountered along the way.
In her book The Secret of Sovereignty, Dede Henley speaks about how SOURCING – maintaining a state of gratitude – will dramatically shift your leadership into greatness. She speaks to the concept of “Being a Yes” – open and available to whatever comes your way, even if you don’t know how things will turn out.
Ray Kinsella was clearly ‘Being a Yes’. She asks:
“Do others around you experience freedom and joy? Do you experience it yourself?”
As a leader, you have the power to SOURCE others so that they feel empowered, appreciated and excited about achieving their calling. I was reminded of this power last night over dinner with two absolutely amazing leaders. Sourcing creates incredible conversations and emotions for everyone involved. I am still on a high from the massive dose of endorphins the experience brought me as a Sourcer.
“SOURCING is about causing and creating a life that you love. When you are Source, you don’t have to wait for a single soul to change around you. You don’t have to wait for the right job, the right time, the right circumstances. You can begin right now.”
You know you are SOURCING when you leave each and every person you interact with empowered and appreciated. With that mind/heartset, they will go on to build their own Field of Dreams.
Your Turn
What do you do to SOURCE those around you?
